Current Research

Ongoing efforts in the lab currently include:

  • Thriving in College with ADHD Skills Training: Our team and colleagues at Wyoming, South Carolina, and Richmond have developed a CBT-based intervention to promote the success of students with ADHD in college. Taylor & Francis has published our therapist manual and student workbook that support this intervention. We continue to research the efficacy of this intervention in various formats (e.g., in person, online).
If you are a college student interested in getting a copy of the Thriving in College with ADHD student workbook, you can purchase one directly through Taylor & Francis (above) or find this at Amazon here or Barnes & Noble here.
If you are a therapist interested in getting a copy of the Thriving in College with ADHD therapist manual
, you can purchase one directly through Taylor & Francis (above) or find it at Amazon here or Barnes & Noble here.
If you are a student at Appalachian and are interested in participating in our Thriving in College with ADHD  group, contact Dr. Canu directly.
  • U-LEARN: Undergraduate Learning, Executive functioning, and Attention Research Network. U-LEARN is a collaborative research project that involves teams from several universities, including Appalachian State, Wyoming, Northern Iowa, Colorado-Boulder, South Carolina, Syracuse, Chicago-Illinois, Southern Mississippi, Hawaii, and Louisiana State. Our main focus is trying to better illustrate the factors associated with adjustment in college for students with ADHD. Data is collected at all sites via the SONA online platform, facilitating a large and diverse sample of students with and without ADHD.
